I brought my car here last month after the "service engine soon" light came on. You definitely need to make an appointment ahead of time, but it's worth waiting a few days. My car had a few different issues that added up to the light turning on, and they did a really thorough job finding and fixing them all. They do charge to diagnose the check engine light, but overall I didn't pay any more than I expected to. They seemed to care about keeping costs down for the customer. My car was done by mid-afternoon, and Paul explained everything very clearly and patiently, both over the phone when he called with an update and when I came to pick up the car. As a woman who doesn't know a lot about cars (blah, walking stereotype, I know), I'm always nervous about finding a new mechanic, but Paul's was awesome. I'll absolutely take my car back to them.
